Job Vacancy For Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Open Pit Operations (Fixed Term)
Asanko Gold Ghana Limited Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture between Galiano Gold and Gold Fields. The primary asset is the multi-pit Asanko Gold Mine complex, located in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Galiano Gold are the managers and operators of the Asanko Gold Mine.
AGGL is seeking to employ a suitably qualified person to fill the role below. The incumbent will be responsible for site-based slope design and management, rock mass property assessment, and geotechnical instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide site wide surface geotechnical support of multiple active open pits.
• Coordinate the recording of pit slope movements with prisms/radars and import and digest all raw data into the slope monitoring database and provide daily summary reports which can be used to monitor pit slope movement.
• Perform and supervise scan line or cell mapping, as appropriate, required in the bench design and in the determination of the rock mass strength.
• Modelling of major structures using 2D and 3D software and analyse the effect on slope stability.
• Design high wall perimeter blast hole patterns to ensure minimal blast damage to the high wall, using ground vibration monitors.
• Ensure adequate geotechnical instrumentation is deployed, read, maintained, and data reported.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with mine geology, mine operations, dewatering, and mine engineering groups.
• Supervision of the geotechnical and hydrology team.
• Performing, training and oversight of highwall data collection.
• Undertake field inspections of active mine and process areas.
• Review mine designs and plans; create and support mitigation plans.
• Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by Management.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Minimum Higher National Diploma with relevant specialization in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of 4 years’ working experience as on-site Geotechnical Engineer in similar position in the mining or related industry.
• Hydrology experience in relevant field would be an added advantage.
• High degree of exposure to specialized geological software and other software such as Datamine, Surpac, Rocscience etc.
• Strong commitment to timelines, accuracy and professionalism.
• Effectively handle multiple, concurrent demands.
• Adapt to continually changing priorities aggressive schedules and to appropriately prioritize responsibilities.
