Job Vacancy For Social Accountability Specialist At The Urban Institute



The Urban Institute, a non-profit organization based in Washington DC, is seeking to hire local government experts for a forthcoming project on building local government capacity in public financial management in Ghana.

The project team will work closely with MMA staff and officials in a number of different locations to build skills and capacity. The program is expected to take place over 3 years starting around October 1, 2012. Positions are contingent upon project award.

Social Accountability Specialist:

. Will provide support to MMAs in engagement with civil society, citizen participation, enhancing transparency, holding public meetings, disclosure of public information, public outreach, participatory planning, prioritization of investments.
. Will help MMAs undertake resident satisfaction surveys.

Qualification Required & Experience

We are looking for people with strong technical expertise, an interest in working with people, and excellent interpersonal skills.

. Should have at least 5-10 years of experience in the following areas: working with MMA’s to improve accountability across varying sectors, supporting MMA’s in citizen outreach activities, and assisting MMA’s to adequately determine the needs of their communities.

. Experience working with civil society organizations, familiarity with survey techniques and performance management a plus.

. At least a Bachelor’s Degree (MSc preferred) in Social studies, community development, or related discipline required.

. Fluency in English is a requirement, with fluency in one or more local languages highly desirable.  Experience with training and capacity building (through mentoring, guiding, providing technical assistance) is highly desirable.

Position will require extensive in-country travel.
