The Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI), established by the Earth Institute at Columbia University in early 2006, has as its major objectives to assist a number of Millennium Cities in sub-Saharan Africa in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Description Of Job

Millennium Promise Ghana, the NGO through which MCI and its partner the Millennium Village Project are assisting rural and urban communities in Ghana to attain the MDGS seeks an experienced individual to support, both substantively and operationally, MCI's social sector work in the city of Kumasi, the first millennium city in Ghana.

Period: 12 calendar months, starting October, 2012

Reports to: Reg. MCI Co-ordinator

Job Summary:
He/she will provide direct support for the social sector work of the MCI.

•  This work includes facilitating trainings, community consultations and other meetings;
•  Carrying out data collection and analysis, as directed;
•  Liaising with public, private, non-profit and overseas partners, and keeping them informed and up-to-date regarding the projects with which they are affiliated

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Bachelor's degree in education, public health, social work, or relate area of expertise;
•  Highly motivated, with at least 3 years of relevant experience in the development or anti-poverty arena;
•  Proven problem-solving and organizational skills, self-motivated and independent, flexible, and calm under pressure
•  Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English;
•  Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, detail-orientated, a team player;
•  Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to compile and report results of research and other project-related activities;
•  Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
