Project Brief

• The project Ghana Health Initiative seeks to strengthen the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases in Ghana.
• In close cooperation with the Ghanaian Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) and building on the successful implementation of the Ghana Heart Initiative (GHI), the multi-donor approach focuses on improved and integrated healthcare services for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes type II

Scope of Role

• The Technical Advisor is responsible for implementing daily operational aspects related to the project; processing technical aspects and further developing the area of responsibility in accordance with the specified quality standards thereby supporting the achievement of the agreed project objectives of the Ghana Health Initiative.

Tasks:

• Coordinate the successful delivery of assigned components/modules of the project, regularly consulting with the project manager responsible for local implementation of the project.
• Engage with partners (both public and private) and subject matter experts to operationalise and implement capacity building activities and mentoring programmes in the management of selected NCDs for healthcare workers, according to project plan.
• Regularly consult with representatives from the health sector (including MOH and GHS) at all levels on project plans and activities.
• Participate in formulating project action plans and support the synchronisization of planning and budgeting systems.
• Assist with designing, preparing, implementing and documenting training events, workshops, forums, team meetings and other project activities required for successfully implementing the project.
• Prepare appropriate input for various project reports and presentation documents and contribute to other reports and documents as required by the team.
• Participate in meetings as required and where necessary, developing and maintaining contact with all important stakeholders.
• Provide assistance to local and international experts and consultants.
• Undertake technical and administrative activities as required and related to assigned components/modules, including development of terms of reference for consultants and service providers, preparation of requests and reporting documents for procurement, contracting and event management according to and in compliance with GIZ processes and rules.
• Ensure knowledge management by collecting and processing relevant information for distribution to relevant stakeholders

Qualification Required & Experience

• University degree in a health-related area/area related to project objectives (biochemistry, pharmacy, public health, project management, etc.); A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ professional experience in a comparable position, previous work in international development is an asset.
• Strong project management and organisational skills; proficiency in stakeholder engagement and management.
• Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies including MS Office suite and digital communications.
• Results oriented with excellent analytical, report writing and presentation skills.
• Strong communication (verbal and written) skills, proactivity, adaptability and willingness to create results under pressure.
• Experience with working in multicultural and multisectoral environments, with excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork capabilities.
• Experience in/familiarity with GIZ procedures is a strong asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language, ideally also a knowledge of German language.
• Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed.
