Masara N’Arziki Farmers Association is a farmer based Association that supports small to medium holder maize farmers by providing them with high quality inputs on credit, technical advice and training and a guaranteed market for their produce. Masara N’Arziki’s goal is to allow farmers to improve their agricultural practices and to improve both their farm and their livelihoods in a farmer-first and sustainable manner and thus supporting the farmer what they are doing, much better and increase their income.

Masara N’Arziki Farmers Association (MAFA) is an association for farmers located and currently operates in Northern, Upper West and East regions of Ghana with its secretariat in Tamale.

The association is providing several services to its members (farmers) including provision of agro inputs on credit, extension services, and buying members produce at a guaranteed price. Masara is managed by professional staff and an elected Executive Council. Masara is looking to employ Technical Officers:

JOB SUMMARY

The technical Officer will oversee all field level activities in his operational area. He will work primarily with farmers, supervisors, the Area Manager, the training Coordinator, and the Operations Manager. His main focus will be in providing the Masara N'Arziki package to farmers. This will include work with both the extension and the operations departments. Technical Officers will serve as the link between the farmer/field and the Supervisor, Area Manager, or Operations Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This will include but not limited to the following:

•   Coordinate and monitor all activities in operational area including the distribution of inputs.
•   Facilitate the registration and provision of extension services support to farmers under MAFA in accordance with laid down procedures.
•   Facilitate and train farmers on MAFA protocol.
•   Prepare weekly and monthly reports on activities progress.
•   Organize regular farmers’ meetings at village levels and also collaborate with the District MOFA extension officers in your area of operations in the training and education of farmers on the safe and proper use of inputs and implements.
•   Demonstrate on farms the proper use and application of the MAFA input package.
•   Monitor and assist in collecting data from MAFA demonstration farms in the area of operations.
•   Distribute and account for all inputs delivered to all MAFA farmers in your operational area.
•   Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will require the candidate to work extra hours and will be required to spend 90% of his/ her time conducting field visits often in remote villages.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Higher diploma and bachelor’s degree in agriculture related field is required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

•   At least 3 years of experience in community mobilization and/or community development in agriculture or rural development
•   Able to work under minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
•   Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven track record as an effective team player.
•   Strong attention to detail with excellent time management skills.
