Golden Star Resources (GSR) is a growing mining Company with two operating mines in Ghana, Golden Star (Bogoso/Prestea) Limited and Golden Star (Wassa) Limited and other projects at various stage of development.

Job Summary

The Company's Prestea underground operation is seeking to recruit suitably qualified Ghanaian for appointment as: Underground Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all underground activities and compliance with statutory regulations;
• Prepare and implement both conceptual and detailed development and stope layouts;
• Prepare and implement mining schedules, equipment requirements and cost estimates;
• Develop and implement effective ventilation plans for all mining areas;
• Ensure routine monitoring is carried out to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards;
• Design and implement ground support, mine services requirements, and pumping systems;
• Ensure all underground work and production are designed and carried out according to highest safety standards;
• Undertake studies and implement findings to optimise underground operations;
• Liaise with mine planning and maintenance departments to achieve set targets;
• Responsible for Monthly reporting of production results and provide explanations to deviations from plan;
• Train and develop employees in the department;
• Ensure maximum safe working environment is maintained at all times and that all work is carried out with respect to the company's health & safety and environmental policies; and
• Perform any other related duties assigned from time to time by the Mine Manager

Qualification Required & Experience

Qualifications and Required Competencies:

• BSc. or Diploma in Mining Engineering with at least eight (8) years hands-on experience in underground mine planning and operations;
• Holder of unrestricted Certificates of Competency up to underground Manager level;
• Experience with narrow vein mining operations;
• Experience in various mining methods-traditional and mechanised;
• Knowledge in underground survey;
• Experience in mine planning (preparation of mine development and stoping layouts);
• Knowledge of ventilation principles and determination of ventilation requirements;
• Knowledge of rock mechanics with respect to narrow vein and mining at depth;
• Fluent with mine planning software (preferably Surpac)
• Fluent with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Ability to estimate equipment requirements and selection of appropriate equipment;
• Effective budgeting, planning and scheduling skills for both production and projects;
• Knowledge in operations of underground dewatering equipment;
• Knowledge in basic electrical reticulation;
• Effective management skills and ability to train and mentor others;
• Willing to work extended hours to achieve tight deadlines
• Effective communication skills - both written and oral;
• Flexible rotations if critical circumstances need attention including night shift;
• High regard for safe work practices and procedures;
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian drivers license
