Abosso Goldfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited. Located in a tropical climate, the Damang Gold Mine is a world-class operation,consisting of 25 Mtpa open pit-mining operations and a 5.2 Mtpa CIL metallurgical plant. The mine is situated in the Western Region of Ghana and is ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 certificated. It has a current Life of Mine expectency to the year 2019 and beyond.

Description Of Job

Purpose of the Job:-
The purpose of the role is to ensure that L&D Management Systems, processes and policies are in place and aligned to meet the short and long term demands of skills and competencies required by the Ghana operations in order to remain competitive in the industry internationally, taking full cognisance of applicable legislation and best practice principles,. The role is specifically responsible to oversee the effective functioning of the Learning & Development Centre in Ghana (Tarkwa), thus the executor of the training strategy for both Tarkwa and Damang Mines. The role needs to control budgets, staff, learning and resources, and ensure that quality training is provided. The position is responsible for the effective management of relevant education, training and development systems to ensure it meets operational requirements. The role also needs to support the initiation of appropriate systems and functional best practices within the department to optimise the performance of the function.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Manage the delivery of scheduled programmes in a cost-effective manner
•  Ensure the optimal scheduling and implementation of training programmes to support operational learning and talent development processes
•  Manage the c0-ordination and high level integration of HRD initiatives to leverage learning opportunities and ensure consistency of standards across operations
•  Work closely with management to identify learning opportunities and develop appropriate training content to support Tarkwa and Damang operation plans
•  Perform role analysis and skills audits and identify talent gaps and complement risk
•  Monitor training results that include tracking information, costs and effectiveness and feedback for company training programs
•  Continually review and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, assessment methods, processes and techniques and take corrective action
•  Provide support to successors in terms of coaching, mentorships and other relevant support structures
•  Prepare and manager the training budget and bursary scheme
•  Manage and oversee the development of training team
•  Responsible for all training related recording keeping
•  Manage all induction programmes for the Operations and ensure that these are continuously aligned to reflect the latest business requirements
•  Manage the effective delivery of all operator training
•  Manage the effective delivery of all relevant leadership development programmes
•  Prepare monthly training reports in alignment with reporting requirements

Qualification Required & Experience

•  Tertiary qualification in Human Resources Development or Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Development or related field
•  Five to seven years experience in a Learning & Development role in the gold mining industry
•  A minimum of three years experience in identifying designing and delivering a variety of training blended solutions specific to open pit mines with an owner operator model
•  A minimum of four years experience at middle management level
•  A minimum of two (2) years experience in applying principles and methods for curriculum and training design or a strong background in instruction and curriculum design and delivery of competency based learning
•  Solid presentation and facilitation skills
•  Ability to create a learning and talent development program with minimal use of external consultants or vendors
•  Certified work place Assessor/Moderator
•  Medical fitness for the position and environment
•  A valid current and light duty vehicle license
•  Budget & people management experience
•  Experience of partnering with third parties (Contract Management)
