The University: On May 14, 2004 the University of Education Act, Act 672 was enacted to upgrade the status of the University College of Education of Winneba to the status of a full University. The University of Education, Winneba was established in September, 1992 as a University College under PNDC Law 322. University of Education, Winneba brought together seven diploma awarding institutions located in different towns under one umbrella institution. Currently the University has three campuses. The main campus is at Winneba in the Central Region, with satellite campuses at Kumasi and Ashanti Mampong in the Ashanti Region.

Job Summary

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above position in the University of Education, Winneba.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration and coordination of all library services in the University and its Campuses, Colleges, Departments, Centres and Research Units. In addition, such candidate will:

•  Manage employees, products, services and goals of the expanding library of the University;
•  Design and implement an overall strategic plan for the development of the University library;
•  Build an existing resources, and services to create a modern library which would respond to teaching, research and learning programmes of the University;
•  Recommend and implement systems that would create a seamless extension of the library that provides scholars with access to evaluated, organized and preserved information in any format;
•  Supervise the smooth transition of old products and services to new ones;
•  Create effective cross-departmental working relationships and
•  Assist both in-house and outside scholars with world class library services

Qualification Required & Experience

Candidate seeking appointment as Librarian must possess a minimum of Masters degree in Library/Information Studies. In addition, candidate must:

•  Have served as Deputy Librarian for a minimum of five (5) years in a university or a comparable institution
•  Have at least five (5) publications since appointments as Deputy Librarian;
•  Have strong knowledge of Library management and evidence of ability to create and lead an academic library
•  Have strong knowledge of library practices from traditional management system to modern portal library
•  Have solid skills in library related IT infrastructure and systems
