The U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana is seeking for an individual for the position of a VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC TECHNICIAN in the General Services Office of the Embassy.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The incumbent works as Automobile Technician in the Vehicle Maintenance section of the U. S. Embassy, with the ability to use Automotive Diagnostic Scan Consult to trouble shoot and diagnose faults on vehicles and liaise with Automobile Maintenance Foremen/Motor pool

Supervisor in ensuring that information on automotive diagnostic scan/consult is up to date at all times. S/he receives oral instruction or work order concerning work to be done, and proceeds to accomplish the necessary maintenance. This includes reading specifications, using the proper tools/equipment and checking all work for completion. Ability to carry out pre-repair test drive to ascertain reported faults on vehicle complained by its user/owner. Work includes, assisting in the installation of equipment, repair of vehicles and other areas where this trade is required; and advises driver/mechanics on use of vehicle diagnostic scan/consult reading and their meaning.

Qualification Required & Experience

1. Completion of HND Automobile option or /Automobile Motor Vehicle Technician Part III certificate or its equivalent.
2. Two to five years prior work experience in a large garage or similar environment.
3. Level II (good working knowledge) in English is required. Job holder will be able to read and understand, for example, regulations, instructions and related material concerning the field of work, and to prepare correspondence and standardized reports. Job holder will be able to communicate effectively with staff and members of the public in the language. Language proficiency will be tested.
4. Must be able to use all tools in the trade including automotive diagnostic scan/consult automotive maintenance and repairs; and the use of additives as it is necessary during the process of work.
5. Must be computer literate and must know how to use basic MS word and MS Excel.
6. Must have and provide a copy of a valid local driver’s license Class B. Driving experience will be tested.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (AEFMs) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.

Salary: GH¢11,543 p.a.
