Golden Star (Wassa) Limited, a subsidiary of Golden Star Resources (GSR), with head office in Toronto, Canada, is a gold mining company situated at Akyempim in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate shall:

• Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of workers and the support services underground
• Establish methods to meet work schedules and confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments and contractors to resolve matters affecting mine operations
• Comply, and ensure compliance with established methodologies and quality standards related to mine operations while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches
• Oversee the safety of the underground mining operations to ensure compliance with, and training of Company, Regulatory and Contractor safety rules, policies, regulations and standard operating procedures
• Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity
• Provide requisition materials and ensure availability of mining supplies
• Provide recommendations on personnel actions such as hiring and promotions
• Mentor or train less experienced employees on operating standards, procedures and methods
• Assist in development of short range mine plans to ensure they are realistic and achievable
• Prepare production and other reports as required
• Assist with special projects related to mine operations
• Provide assessment of safety and performance outcomes in coordination with the Shift Bosses and Mine Manager

Qualification Required & Experience

• BSc. Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
• Statutory certification as a Mine Captain
• Minimum 5 years of related work experience
• Complete knowledge of the underground mining environment
• Solid safety performance at the personal and professional levels
• Ability to function within the required physical demands of the job as outlined
• Detailed knowledge of established mining methods and operating practices
• General knowledge of the integration of the mining, milling and maintenance functions
• Detailed knowledge of established mining methods and operating practices
• Working knowledge of the explosives used in mining
• Good working knowledge with MS Office Suite especially in Excel and Word
• Current and Valid Ghanaian driving license required
• First aid certification preferred
