POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Livelihood Specialist, WASH Specialist, or Project Director, the Mobilizer for the WA-WASH Ghana Multiple-Use Water Services program will interact with the population to help identify community water challenges (domestic use water and productive use water) and discuss possible technological and management solutions that are sustainable and appropriate for the context.  The mobilizer will interact with the population to plan and monitor the implementation of the selected options.

Multiple-Use Services (MUS) is a consumer-oriented approach to water service delivery that takes people’s multiple domestic and productive water needs as the starting point for planning, financing, and managing integrated water services. Existing approaches to water service delivery typically focus on providing water for a single use – for example, drinking or irrigation. MUS has significant advantages over single-use services: it generates greater income, health, and other benefits and enhances sustainability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Actively participate in the identification and selection of intervention villages , set up Water User Associations (WUAs) and support their functionality ;
•   Support communities to develop their yearly action plan on issues of water, sanitation , horticulture and small livestock ;
•   Participate in the training of WUAs on ongoing management of water points, and disseminate key messages on hygiene and health by focusing on the activity of hand-washing;
•   Support the demonstration and marketing of water-related products and services and encouraging the use of new technologies or techniques deemed necessary by the team;
•   Conduct ongoing analysis of the emerging dynamics around the sourcing, supply and use of low- cost technologies for drinking water and irrigation and suggest improvements in the Project’s support of the value-chain for these water-related products and services;
•   Plan future monthly activities and report on previous month’s accomplishments.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Advanced degree, preferably bachelor’s degree, relating to rural development
•   Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a mobilizer/field agent in Ghana.

Preferred:

•   Experience in water, health, hygiene or agriculture (horticulture or livestock)
•   Experience in the promotion of private sector techniques or technologies and in facilitating relationships between clients and local private sector enterprises

Skills/Knowledge:     

•   Ability to communicate effectively and to train community members and farmers
•   Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal communication skills
•   Strong ethical code and ability to creatively solve problems
•   Motorcycle permit and the ability to drive a 125 cc motorcycle on rural roads
•   Fluent in English

Preferred:

•   Familiarity with computers and computer software
•   Fluency in the languages spoken in the Upper West Region
