Job Vacancy For Project Officers – Biodiversity Research and Monitoring At Ghana Wildlife Society



The Ghana Wildlife Society (GWS), a non-governmental conservation organisation.

The Project Officers shall work under the supervision of Director for Conservation Programmes towards the delivery of programme targets of the Biodiversity Research and Conservation Science Unit of the Society.

Specific responsibilities:

•   Ensure the implementation of programmes and projects of the Biodiversity Research are effectively done to the highest standards and in line with the donor requirements.
•   Support field surveys and monitoring of Important Birds and Biodiversity Areas (IBBAs) and development of conservation action plans to protect priority conservation sites/species in the country.
•   Support bird population monitoring schemes including GWS supporter base bird monitoring programmes.
•   Assist in development of targeted research proposals and fundraising towards the implementation of  programmes of Biodiversity Research Unit
•   Assist in field data collection, analysis and producing of reports and other required documents (e.g., work plans, implementation plans, annual reports, budget reports) for GWS and donors on schedule.
•   Assist in compiling technical papers, brochures, newsletters, update of website information and other materials.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   The applicant must possess a good university degree in Natural Resources Management Biological Sciences, or related disciplines with at least 3 years experience or Msc/MPhil in relevant discipline. Knowledge of forest birds of Ghana would be an added advantage.
•   Strong analytical skills and excellent oral and written communications skills
•   Commitment to biodiversity conservation and ability to work in the field in remote areas
•   Ability to work independently on projects of moderate-to-high complexity with minimum supervision.
