JOB PURPOSE
Business partner to SBUs, assisting with efficient risk capital allocation during budgeting periods. Ensuring efficient balance sheet management, credit risk management at SBU level, bringing proactive risk management process at the SBU level. Responsible for credit due diligence, assist with credit structuring and defense and keeping an up to date data base of credit performance by sector, industry and identified peer group. Critical role to be played includes providing management with the appropriate support and challenge to ensure that:
• Partner the Business Unit with respect to enterprise risk management activities; identification, assessment ,monitoring , control and mitigation of risks
• Collaboration with Finance Business Partners to ensure the risk message is delivered effectively and consistently to Head of Business Units, including a quarterly review of key enterprise risks
• Ensuring that key risks are understood by stakeholders and factored into strategic planning
• Raising the profile of risk management in the various business units
• Continual improvement and development of the risk management process
• Shaping the control environment across the entire organization’s Credit Risk lifecycle addressing both current weaknesses and providing direction on future improvements
• Owning the Bank’s Credit Policy Manual, ensuring an appropriate balance between the need for control and fit with business strategy
• Understanding the portfolio business dynamics and align these to the business controls which exist providing a business partner interaction
• Developing and maintaining a clear understanding of risk and control requirements
• Drive and facilitate the completion of Governance reporting
• Share / escalate concerns, risks and policy breaches as appropriate
• Provide support and guidance in respect of mitigating unplanned risk events e.g. incidents or audit issues.
• Ensuring that all legal, regulatory and bank wide standards and requirements are met
• Credit risk and fraud strategies are defined, delivered and monitored in an effective and controlled manner

TECHNICAL COMPETENCE
• Collating, preparing and interpreting reports, budgets, accounts, commentaries and financial statements
• Undertaking strategic analysis and assisting with strategic planning
• Assist to produce short to medium as well as long-term business plans
• Undertaking research into pricing, competitors and factors affecting performance.
EXPERIENCE TO RUN THE BUSINESS SUCCESSFULLY
• The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of risk management but will also have experience within the specific business unit partnering capacity due to the strong focus within the role on stakeholder engagement
• A working knowledge of complete line of the Banks products & services offered and asset classes
• Resolved and have good credit management skills
• Credit Risk Management (policy setting and implementation) exposure in a retail, business and corporate banking environment
• An understanding of either Operational or Credit Risk management in a retail, business and corporate banking portfolio
• A strong understanding of Operational Risk and Control techniques ( Risk assessment, Risk Mitigation, Risk Reporting)
• The desire to deliver service excellence and “see the world through the eyes of the customer”
• Excellent problem solving /decision making skills
• The ability to write concise, precise and practical credit reports
• Familiarity with audit management methods and processes
• Previous ‘risk’ experience gained in different risk roles
• Experience across more than one part of the risk process e.g. audit, group centre, regulation, risk control, business side etc.
Qualification Required & Experience
• A good first degree in a business related field
• 5 years experience in the banking environment in a similar role with proven ability to undertake credit analysis, with good research, report writing skills
• Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)
