Job Vacancy For IT Support Officer – Grade C1 At DFID Ghana
DFID Ghana needs an IT Support Officer, who will be based in the Corporate Services Team on a fix-term contract. The person will be member of the IT team that will proactively maintain and support the BHC /DFID Information Systems infrastructure at post and provide a focal point for users IT related queries.
He or She will ensure maximum availability of the DFID and Firecrest systems and service by resolving IT problems in conjunction with support from the IT Support Manager, FCO /DFID Help Desk and other IT stakeholders (e.g. SSTSO, RSC, and ITSA)
The Role in relation to the Core Competences
Changing and Improving
• Encourage staff use of DFID/FCO Help Desk as the first point of contact for reporting IT issues.
• Ensure changes to IT at post e.g. office moves follow the correct IT Change procedures e.g. Contract Change (CCR) or Request for Change (RFC)
• Promoting best practice in information management and in the use of information technology.
• Supporting the SharePoint site
Leading and Communicating
• Ensure effective communication of IT related issues to all stakeholders and ensure prompt response and feedback on issues.
Making Effective Decisions
• Manage and maintain user accounts, distribution list and mailboxes.
• Procurement, installation and maintain Firecrest and non-Firecrest hardware equipment (e.g. desktops, laptops, printers, servers (depending on clearance) and Blackberries)
• Provide oversight responsibility for a small pool of ‘hot’ spares of desktops and laptops as well as server spares (FRU kits) and order replacement spares to replenish those used to resolve a fault.
• Ensure installation of Bitlocker software and regenerate pins
• Participate in the Post IT Committee
• Play an active role in Post’s Business Continuity Plan
Managing a Quality Service
• Accurately log work performed and issues raised using the Open View Service Desk (Single Service Pages)
Proactively maintains DFID/FCO information system infrastructure at post, reporting incidents and degradations in performance promptly to the Helpdesk and escalating through the correct channel (Regional Service Manager – Service Delivery Manager) where necessary
• Effective manage printers and multifunction devices for both BHC and DFID
• Carry out post server administration e.g adding new machines, creating new data shares
• Carry out hardware replacements on desktops and servers according to the instructions in the ITSO manual and return faulty equipment to the UK
• Replace backup tapes when required (including for Proviso servers)
• Maintain the Inventory of IT equipment
• Annual integrity check of laptops and cleared workstation
• Maintain an up to date inventory of echo numbers, land phone sets as well as assign Echo extension numbers to staff and ensure that Echo telephony and data service are available.
• Liaising with external contractors to ensure all office machinery are in working condition.
• Providing Support for the electronic document registration system
Delivering at Pace
• Plan various IT activities in conjunction with IT Manger, when required. Effectively rebuild desktops and laptops, when required.
Qualification Required & Experience
• The successful candidate must have a good degree.
• They must have at least 2 years practical experience in IT.
• Should have experience in managing services in a demanding work environment.Requires good communication and writing skills.
Salary: Minimum gross GH¢ 1657.00
