The Office of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) Accra invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the vacancy below:

Position: Vulnerability Assessment & Mapping (VAM) Officer
Duration: 1 Year (Renewable)
Grade: NOB
Duty Station: Accra

Job Purpose

•   To contribute to the VAM evidence base that supports food security and nutrition policies and programmes (e.g. needs assessment and situation analyses, programme design, targeting, cost effectiveness and operational efficiency).
•   Under the direct supervision of the Head of Programme, the staff member will be responsible for the following duties:

Specific Tasks & Responsibilties

•   Contribute to maintenance of a Food Security and Nutrition Monitoring System to detect changes in the food security and vulnerability situation of populations at risk in WFP intervention areas
•   Provide technical backstopping in the running of a Food Security Nutrition Monitoring system, including the analysis of market price data, and the writing of monthly or quaterly food security bulletins
•   Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs
•   Lead, coordinate and participate in food security and market assessment activities (including comprehensive food security and vulnerability analysis, emergency food security analysis, joint crop assessment missions and market assessments
•   Manage and collate monthly market price data for key markets in support of WFP's cash based Transfer (CBT) operations as required, undertake price trend analysis and feed into the WFP corporate market price Database
•   Map and analyse geographical patterns of food insecurity and vulnerability by integrating primary food security data with other sources of data in the geography information system (GIS) environment
•   Provide the WFP country office with the necessary GIS and mapping capability including preparation of analytical maps that support country level operational functions and programmes preparation of maps that provide an inventory of local resources and capacities (e.g infrastructure, personnel, NGO services, Partners intervention areas, WFP project site areas ect..
•   Strengthen the use of food security analytical products for decision making in WFP, government, UN, donors and civil society
•   Transfer skills and develop sustainable capacity food security and market analysis and information management systems in relevant government institutions (MOFA-SRID, NADMO), the UN systems and local partners
•   Other as required

Desired Experiences For Entry Into The Role

•   Demonstrated proficiency in the use of several statistical tools and methods for food security analysis (SPSS, STATA, ArcGIS or similar)
•   Developed practical expertise in food security analysis and mapping by participating in multiple assessment in countries, including the design, data collection and analysis
•   Experience in designing and conducting market assessments and price monitoring
•   Experience in emergency preparedness and response an advantage
•   Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of WFP vulnerability mapping systems and emergency assessment standards.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Advanced University Degree in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Data Science, Public Health/Nutrition, Geography or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses
•   Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station's language, if different.
