Medical Laboratory Assistant Wanted For Employment By Millennium Villages Project



The Millennium Villages Project, (MVP) is a joint initiative of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, the UNDP, Millennium Promise (a private philanthropy) and the governments of African countries, including Ghana. The MVP adopts an integrated approach to help populations in severely deprived villages to break the cycle of extreme poverty and realize the Millennium Development Goals. Sectors within which the MVP intervenes include agriculture, infrastructure, environments, health, education and business development among others. In Ghana, the MVP operates in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, and works with a cluster of 30 contiguous villages with an estimated total population of 30,000 people.

The project runs seven (7) clinics with a central lab to serve the clinics. The Project now invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the positions:

Medical Laboratory Assistant

Reporting: The Laboratory Assistant will report directly to the Laboratory Technologist, under the overall supervision of the Health Co-ordinator

The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for:

. Performing bench and routine examinations
. Preparing and mount specimen
. Cleaning and maintaining standard laboratory equipment
. Entering patient data on computer system
. Labeling and sorting samples of various tests

Duty Station: Within the Project area in the Amansie West District

Required Qualification & Experience

. A minimum of Senior Secondary/High School Certificate (GCE ‘O’ Level, WASSCE, etc)
. At least 2 years experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant with the Ghana Health Service or any recognised Health Facility
. Fluency in English and Twi is highly desirable
