ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency working in over 40 countries, taking sides with poor people to end poverty and injustice together.  ActionAid Ghana (AAG) is looking to employ an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the following vacancy.

Project Manager:  Women's Rights And Sustainable Livelihoods

Duty Station:  Accra

Job Profile:

ActionAid Ghana (AAG) in collaboration with.. Aim at increasing visibility and contribution of the food sector in addressing hungry and poverty. The project will use a combination of strategies such as in-country research, mobilization and coalition building, coordinated international campaigning and advocacy with the objective of increasing investment for small holder farmers, (especially women farmers) in the Upper East and Northern Region of Ghana.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Country Director, the project manager will focus on women's rights and sustainable agricultural livelihoods/foods security and advocate for changes in policies and practices to address the barriers that prevent women from participating in economic, political and social actions that would enable them to fully realize their rights as smallholder farmers and equal members of their society. The barriers to achieving these are women's heavy responsibility for unpaid are work; gender norms that only see men as economic agents; government' lack of recognition and investment in smallholder agriculture generally and of women farmers in particular and the need to incorporate greater recognition of women's unpaid  are work in national and international agriculture policies.

Job Circumstances:

This is a full time position with considerable travel (up to 50% of time) to project implementation areas in the Upper East and North Regions. The post could have unsociable hours involving attending committee meetings and evening public meetings.

Academic Qualification:

Masters Degree in Agricultural Science + 5 years relevant experience, Or First Degree in Social Sciences + 10 years relevant experience.
